Preferred Skills and Experience
- Lead the design and development of new lithium ion battery systems and manufacturing processes, including parts, processes, mfg equipment, assembly methods, and fixtures.
- Perform detailed design analyses: DFMEA, CFD/FEA, Tolerance Analysis, etc.
- Define and execute testing to evaluate and validate new designs.
- Produce CAD and detailed drawings for manufacturing.
- Engage with suppliers to source prototypes and production parts.
- Build products, support and direct production teams.
- Continuously improve production, engineering, quality management and business processes.
- Support and mentor others, work to foster an inclusive culture of engineering rigor and professionalism.
- Anything else needed to get the job done.
Qualifications
- Thrives in a fast-paced, small team environment. Very effective communicator.
- B.S. Engineering and 8+ years relevant work experience.
- 5+ years design experience with integrated electronics (HV / battery systems preferred).
- Solid understanding of GD&T, tolerancing, and DFM for a wide range of manufacturing techniques.
- Experience leading designs through validation, first builds and release to stable production.
- Proficient in CAD (Solidworks + CFD/FEA experience preferred).
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Design: Knowledge of materials, platings, coatings and associated processing methods.
- Mfg: Experience setting up and continuously improving production lines. Jig and fixture design. Automated assembly machine design. Knowledge of 5S, quality control methods.
- Execution: BOM management, build planning, controlled documentation for supply chain / mfg.
- Test: Experiment design / DOE, automotive environmental and abuse testing, regulatory certifications (UN 38.3, UL 1973, etc). Validation of simulation results.
